These Crullers are like the ones that were made back in 1939. And were displayed on a plate in the movie, The Wizard of OZ. - Old Fashioned Crullers
Old Fashioned Crullers
1 cup of sugar 2 egg yolks, well beaten 2 egg whites, beaten stiff 4 cups of flour 1/4 level teaspoon of grated nutmeg 2-1/2 level teaspoons of Calumet Baking Powder 1 cup of milk 1/4 teaspoon of salt
1.) In a bowl cream together the sugar and egg yolks, then and the egg whites.
2.) In another bowl mix together thoroughly, the flour, nutmeg, baking powder, and salt.
3.) Now add alternately with the milk to the first mixture.
4.) Place on a floured board, and roll thin then cut into pieces, 3-inches long by 2-inches wide; make four one-inch gashes at equal intervals.
5.) Pick up pieces by running finger in and out of gashes, and lower into deep hot fat, and fry them. Then pick them up on a skewer, and drain on brown paper.
6.) Quickly roll into powdered sugar, if desired.
