talk about a "bait" thread!! for someone not from Philly, she nailed it. best cheese steaks and hoagies come from Phil & Jim's in Parkside, PA... Delaware county. the secret is in the BREAD. it's best to have UNsliced rolls. unless you specify, a cheese steak come's with American cheese. I don't "get" the whiz... nothing but salt. onions are chopped/diced and fried. then lots of chopping and flipping around. roll goes on top and the whole meat/onion/cheese mess gets scooped into the roll. I like a little trickle of ketchup over the whole mess. dill pickle slices and sweet (pickled not bell) peppers. sliced tomatoes. if you like spicy, you ask for hot peppers... or they'll put a hefty amount in a hunka waxed paper so you can decide how much you want. thank you for this thread! now i'm STARVING for a cheese steak!
