have never been to a TRH. those rolls look tempting. as a kid, was lucky to go out to eat at many places. nothing super froo froo, but before fast-food joints popped up on ever other corner. bread/rolls showed up on tables right away, but were off-limits until actual food arrived. The Longhorn was a favorite and a splurge. niftiness, Is this the Longhorn you talked about? I used to go to one in Boardman, Ohio. Have not been there in a long time. There steaks are very good. But when I was not in the mood for steak I got their fries. Best fries I ever had. And you got so much no need to order anything else. Always left full. Pictured below. I got to go there soon! It reminds me of the restaurant I talked about in the OP. Texas Roadhouse.

I bet that breaded and deep fried walleye is good Belle ! I could eat a lot of that! 😃 Oh yeah,...makes you wish you had a neck like a giraffe so you could taste it all the way down & a rubber gut so you could eat more of it...😂 |

I don't have one myself. We had a good organic restaurant in the city, about an hour from us we'd get to every so often but it has since closed.

Pretty much all my favorite restaurants have gone out of business after decades in the same locations. Between COVID and the outrageous costs from inflation, diners can't afford to go to good restaurants in NYC & Long Island anymore. Famous Dave's BBQ is still open in Westbury, The Harrison Gastropub in Floral Park, Peter Luger's Steakhouse in Great Neck, Chef Wang in New Hyde Park, Wild Ginger Asian Fusion in Great Neck, Marbella Spanish Cuisine in Bayside, Benihana in Manhasset, and a couple of other restaurants I like, but I rarely dine out anymore. My favorite pizza parlor closed after 60 years. The owner didn't have anyone to pass the business to, I guess. I sure miss it.   |

I remember a place along the route to the Jersey shore... before any of the big highways were around.
Zaberer's... beyond kitschy, almost an amusement park. I remember the waiter/waitress bringing a massive snifter-like glass, filled with crushed ice and crudites... celery & carrot sticks, radishes, big cuke slices, green/black olives (my favorite). can't really remember meals but those veggies were a great way to keep occupied while we waited for whatever Dad had ordered for us.
