i'm not a big cake/dessert person, but love a nice pound cake (lemon, please). pound cake makes a killer "French Toast" for breakfast.
not big on frosting (or do you call it icing?), but love a chocolate/chocolate/chocolate cake. dark chocolate cake... with some semi-sweet chips... coated with a thick ganache.
if you're a cake person, what are your favorites.

when i was a kid, desserts were pretty much for holidays and birthdays. we'd make box cakes for our birthdays... my grandmother always subbed milk for the water. she taught us how to make icing... a stick of soft butter, splash of vanilla and pretty much a whole box of confectioner sugar. she also showed us how to make plain vanilla butter cream into chocolate... or, better yet, MOCHA chocolate butter cream. if it was your birthday and my turn to make the cake it WOULD be a chocolate cake with chocolate icing.
what's the difference between frosting and icing??

not sure what it's called... some kind of "cooked" frosting... whipped till fluffy. not terribly sweet... resembling whipped cream. SIL makes it for her deadly chocolate chiffon cakes.
