In all fairness to the owners, there are a number of reasons why they might have had to give her up. She wasn't really abandoned. There were others who could help her, and they did.
This is a pit bull. Maybe it was too aggressive, or any number of things.
There was a poster on Scion who adopted a pit bull from a shelter. It ended up attacking and hurting his other dog. He had to take it back to the shelter. I was reading reviews of a local shelter. One woman wanted to give up her pit bull because she came home and saw that it killed the Chihuahua. She didn't want to keep it after that.
IMO, it's risky adopting a pit bull from a shelter.

I think it has a lot to do with how you raise the breed like you were saying. But regardless of breed I am sure that they are capable of having feelings and emotions.
